Literally becoming someone else is no easy task, which is why some actors are known for having more “eccentric” personalities. However, there is a fine line between an actor’s process and just being mean, nasty and generally insufferable. Here are 13 actors who acted horribly on set.
Christian Bale
We may all love and adore Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, but that doesn't mean Bale doesn't have some dark tendencies of his own. Known for his explosive temper, Bale once humiliated a set crew member by screaming at him and saying, "Am I going to walk around and rip your f****** lights down, in the middle of a scene? What the f*** is it with you?" Though Bale publicly apologized for his outburst, the crew member has never worked on another film with him again. Perhaps it's time for CB to look into yoga.
Gene Hackman
Hollywood veteran Gene Hackman is actually known for his professionalism. However, something must have been happening in his personal life, back in 2001 when he was filming Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums. Apparently, Hackman was no fan of Anderson's and would repeatedly rip into him. Actress Anjelica Huston recalled one particular moment saying, "I was a lot scared but I was more concerned with protecting Wes.. She added that there was a moment when Hackman told Anderson to “pull up your pants and act like a man." At the point where you are berating others, perhaps it's time to retire.
Alec Baldwin
It's no secret that Alec Baldwin is hot-headed. Apparently, his temper also extends into his professional life. An insider on the acclaimed series 30 Rock said that Baldwin rarely showed up on set because it was full of "dry air". Also, on the days he did make his presence known he spent the day yelling at the crew.
Katherine Heigl
Katherine Heigl's notoriously horrible reputation is the reason why she went from Hollywood's IT Girl to appearing in cat litter commercials in just a few short years. Her former Grey's Anatomy boss Shonda Rhimes has not held back with regard for her disdain for Heigl as a person. In one of Heigl's last major film's 2010's Life As We Know It, insiders recall, "She can cost you time every single day of shooting. Wardrobe issues, not getting out of the trailer, questioning the script every single day. Even getting her deal closed at Warners was hard. She hit that point of ‘no'." It looks like Heigl had to learn the hard ways.
Jennifer Lopez
We've heard that Jennifer Lopez is typically lovely to work with. However, back in 2012, while she was filming, What To Expect When You're Expecting, she was also divorcing her then-hubby Marc Anthony. Apparently, Lopez was unable to deal and refuse to speak to anyone directly on set. Everything had to go through her assistant. Um...no ma'am. People get divorced everyday, it's no excuse to be unprofessional at work.
Julia Roberts
Though revered actress Julia Roberts was America's Sweetheart during the '90s, she doesn't get a pass for acting badly on set, especially when your director is Steven Spielberg. Apparently, Roberts was so distraught over her broken engagement to Kiefer Sutherland, she acted horrendously on the set of 1991's Hook. Her behavior was so poor that she was referred to "Tinkerhell" in the press. Sometimes a Xanx is necessary.
Isaiah Washington
Katherine Heigl isn't the only actor known for being difficult on the set of ABC's Grey's Anatomy. Isaiah Washington who played Dr. Preston Burke was also known to wreck havoc on the set. It all came to head when Washington hurled a homophobic slur at his co-star T.R. Knight, and was subsequently fired. Bigotry is not acceptable, especially not in the work place.
Lea Michele
When the sunny and delightful Kate Hudson describes you as, "a nightmare to work with", it might be time to take a good look in the mirror. While on FOX's hit series Glee, Lea Michele apparently made everyone's lives miserable. She treated the crew horrifically, and she had a series of on-set feuds with her co-star Naya Rivera. Perhaps it's time to be an adult ladies.
Lindsay Lohan
As of late, it seems like Lindsay Lohan is back on a positive track, but it's no secret that the former teen-starlet had a ROUGH few years. On one of her last major film sets, Georgia Rule, the film's studio had to send Lohan a note asking her to stop acting like a spoiled child. Apparently, her behavior was so horrendous that JANE FONDA cussed her out in her trailer. Whelp...
Mike Myers
We all love and adore funny man Mike Myers but apparently back in '92 working with his was liken to getting your wisdom teeth repeatedly pulled. While filming Wayne's World Myers was rumored to be horrendous. Director Penelope Spheeris said she "hated him for years" after the film wrapped. She has gone on record saying, "You should have heard him bitching when I was trying to do that ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ scene,” she vented. “‘I can’t move my neck like that! Why do we have to do this so many times? No one is going to laugh at that!'" Hopefully Myers has used the last two and a half decades to humble himself because, "ain't nobody got time for that!"
Shia LaBeouf
We all adored Shia LaBeouf during his Disney days, first as the adorable Louis Stevens in Even Stevens and then in his breakout film role in HolesHowever, LaBeouf has gotten way more odd with age.While filming his 2012 film, Lawless. LaBeouf thought it was a wise idea to punch hunkyTom Hardy in the face. Hardy confirmed what went down by saying, "He just attacked me. He was drinking moonshine. I was wearing a cardigan, and er, went down." LaBeouf is probably lucky to still be breathing.
Wesley Snipes
When a day on set ends with you choking the director, it's probably time to seriously consider a career change. While working on Blade: Trinity, actor Patton Oswalt said that Wesley Snipes, "wouldn’t come out of his trailer, and he would smoke weed all day.” He even claimed that Snipes tried to choke director David Goyer. Horrific.
Bruce Willis
Bruce Willis is no stranger to feuding with other celebs, but it was Cop Out director Kevin Smith who called Willis, "undirectable” and “the unhappiest, meanest, most bitter bitch." YIKES.
